Safety Protocal:

DTF Printing and Heat Press Safety

General Safety

  • Only trained and authorized personnel may operate DTF printers, powder applicators, curing equipment, and heat presses.
  • Read and follow all manufacturer operating instructions.
  • Maintain a clean, organized work area free of unnecessary materials and trip hazards.
  • Wear appropriate clothing and avoid loose sleeves, jewelry, or items that may become caught in equipment.
  • Long hair must be secured away from moving machinery.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

  • Safety glasses are recommended when performing maintenance or cleaning.
  • Heat-resistant gloves should be worn when handling hot platens, cured transfers, or heated components.
  • Disposable nitrile gloves should be worn when handling inks, adhesives, cleaning solutions, and waste materials.
  • Follow Safety Data Sheet (SDS) requirements for all inks, powders, and chemicals used in production.

DTF Printer Safety

  • Keep hands clear of moving print carriage assemblies and feed mechanisms.
  • Never bypass machine guards or safety features.
  • Do not place hands inside the printer while it is operating.
  • Turn off equipment before performing maintenance, cleaning, or repairs.
  • Immediately stop operation if unusual noises, odors, smoke, or mechanical issues occur.
  • Keep liquids away from electrical components and control panels.

Ink Handling Safety

  • Store inks according to manufacturer recommendations.
  • Avoid skin and eye contact with inks.
  • Clean spills immediately using approved cleanup procedures.
  • Wash hands thoroughly after handling inks and before eating or drinking.
  • Keep ink containers properly sealed when not in use.

Adhesive Powder Safety

  • Handle DTF adhesive powder carefully to minimize airborne dust.
  • Use local exhaust ventilation when available.
  • Avoid inhaling powder dust.
  • Clean powder spills promptly using approved methods.
  • Store powder in sealed containers away from moisture and heat sources.

Powder Shaker and Curing Equipment Safety

  • Keep hands away from moving conveyor belts, rollers, and mechanical components.
  • Do not remove guards while equipment is operating.
  • Allow curing equipment to cool before performing maintenance.
  • Monitor curing temperatures to prevent overheating.
  • Keep combustible materials away from curing equipment.

Heat Press Safety

  • Assume all heat press surfaces are hot during operation.
  • Keep hands and fingers away from heated platens.
  • Use caution when opening and closing the press.
  • Never place hands between platens while the press is closing.
  • Verify garments and transfers are properly positioned before engaging the press.
  • Keep unauthorized personnel away from operating equipment.
  • Do not leave heat presses unattended while powered on.

Burn Prevention

  • Use heat-resistant gloves when necessary.
  • Allow transferred garments and materials to cool before handling when appropriate.
  • Exercise caution when performing hot peels.
  • Report all burns immediately, regardless of severity.

Electrical Safety

  • Inspect power cords, plugs, and electrical connections regularly.
  • Do not operate equipment with damaged electrical components.
  • Disconnect power before servicing or cleaning equipment.
  • Only qualified personnel may perform electrical repairs.
  • Keep electrical panels and disconnects accessible at all times.

Ventilation and Air Quality

  • Operate DTF equipment in areas with adequate ventilation.
  • Follow manufacturer recommendations regarding airflow and environmental conditions.
  • Report unusual odors, smoke, or ventilation concerns immediately.
  • Maintain HVAC and filtration systems as required.

Fire Prevention

  • Keep flammable materials away from curing units and heat presses.
  • Know the location of fire extinguishers and emergency exits.
