Roland VersaOBJECT MO-240 UV Printer Safety

General Safety

  • Only trained and authorized personnel may operate the MO-240.
  • Read and understand all manufacturer instructions before operating the machine.
  • Keep the work area clean, organized, and free of unnecessary materials.
  • Never bypass safety devices, interlocks, or machine guards.
  • Do not operate the machine while distracted, fatigued, or impaired.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

  • Wear nitrile gloves when handling UV inks, primer, cleaning fluids, and waste ink.
  • Safety glasses are recommended during maintenance and cleaning procedures.
  • Wash hands thoroughly after handling inks or chemicals.
  • Follow all Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for inks, primers, and cleaning solutions.

UV Light Safety

  • UV-LED curing lamps can cause eye and skin injury if directly viewed or exposed.
  • Never attempt to operate the printer with covers removed.
  • Do not look directly at UV curing lamps.
  • If any cover is cracked, damaged, or improperly installed, discontinue operation immediately.
  • Verify all safety covers are closed before starting a print job.

Emergency Stop Procedures

  • Know the location and operation of the emergency stop button before operating the machine.
  • Press the emergency stop immediately if unexpected movement, collision, or unsafe conditions occur.
  • Report all equipment malfunctions to management immediately.
  • Do not restart the machine until hazards have been corrected.

Ink and Chemical Safety

  • Avoid skin and eye contact with UV inks and primer.
  • Store ink pouches and chemicals according to manufacturer recommendations.
  • Clean spills immediately using approved procedures.
  • Dispose of waste ink and contaminated materials according to local regulations.
  • Keep ink containers sealed when not in use.

Ventilation Requirements

  • Operate the printer in a well-ventilated area.
  • UV printing can generate small amounts of airborne compounds during printing and curing. Adequate ventilation is required to reduce potential eye, nose, and throat irritation.
  • Use facility ventilation, air filtration, or local exhaust systems as required.
  • Report unusual odors or ventilation concerns immediately.

Loading Materials and Fixtures

  • Verify all substrates, jigs, and fixtures are properly secured before printing.
  • Confirm object height does not exceed machine limitations.
  • Keep hands clear of moving print heads and carriage assemblies.
  • Ensure materials are positioned correctly before starting production.
  • Never reach into the printing area while the machine is operating.

Moving Parts Safety

  • Stay clear of the print carriage during operation.
  • Do not place hands inside the machine while printing.
  • Wait for all motion to stop before opening covers.
  • Keep tools and loose objects out of the print area.
  • Verify fixture clamps and vacuum tables are secure before operation.

Daily Cleaning and Maintenance

  • Follow the manufacturer's maintenance schedule.
  • Perform nozzle checks and cleaning procedures as required.
  • Clean overspray and ink buildup from approved surfaces regularly.
  • Never touch print heads directly.
  • Turn off power when performing maintenance that requires access to internal components.
  • Report recurring nozzle loss, unusual noises, or print defects immediately.

UV Lamp Maintenance

  • Keep UV lamp surfaces free from ink overspray and debris.
  • Follow approved cleaning procedures only.
  • Allow components to cool before servicing when necessary.
  • Do not attempt repairs to UV curing systems unless authorized.

Electrical Safety

  • Inspect power cords and connections regularly.
  • Do not operate the printer with damaged electrical components.
  • Keep liquids away from electrical panels and controls.
  • Disconnect power before servicing electrical systems.
  • Only qualified personnel may perform electrical repairs.

Fire Prevention

  • Keep combustible materials away from electrical components and curing systems.
  • Maintain adequate ventilation at all times.
  • Know the location of fire extinguishers and emergency exits.
  • Report overheating equipment, smoke, or unusual odors immediately.

Housekeeping

  • Remove scrap materials, test prints, and waste regularly.
  • Keep floors clean and dry to prevent slips and falls.
  • Store fixtures, jigs, and supplies in designated locations.

End-of-Shift Procedures

  • Complete required nozzle checks and maintenance procedures.
  • Clean print area and remove debris.
  • Verify waste ink containers are properly installed.
  • Store inks, primers, and cleaning solutions appropriately.
